The MMC+

The MAMC+ is responsible for the scientific direction of the National Gallery of Design, Design and Production of Exhibitions and Publications.

The management of the National Design Gallery is entrusted to Aurélie Voltz, director of the MMC+, who, with her teams, guarantees the scientific and cultural coherence of the project.

The Mamc+ is the first modern art museum created in the region in 1987. It offers a program of international exhibitions and promotes a collection made up of more than 23,000 works, mainly between the 19th century.^and and the XXI^and century. Added to the modern and contemporary art collection is a substantial collection of photographs and one of the reference collections in the field of design in France.

The design collection, initiated to the creation of the museum, includes more than 2,000 objects as well as 600 designs and models. It is one of the largest funds in France outside the capital. Nourished by many donations from individuals, it is representative of the history of the object and resonates with the history of Saint-Etienne. Two trends are emerging in the museum’s design collections: one focused on everyday industrial design – household robots, office accessories – and the other towards designer furniture signed from the 1950s to 1980s (Ray and Charles Eames, Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand…). The Mamc+ also retains several archives of designers (Studio Totem, Michel Mortier, René-Jean Caillette, Savinel & Rozé). In all, 27 exhibitions related to design have been worn by the museum since the end of the 1980s.

The EPCC City of Design – ESAD Saint-Étienne

The EPCC Cité du Design – ÉSAD Saint-Étienne is in charge of reception-ticketing, event programming, mediation and communication of the National Design Gallery.

The EPCC City of Design – ESAD Saint-Étienne Its mission is to train the creators of tomorrow and acts towards all audiences to anchor design in our society. It brings together the training and research activities of the École Supérieure d’Art et Design in Saint-Étienne, and broadcast activities (exhibitions, workshops, editions, etc.) within the framework of La Platine, the Cabane or the International Biennale of Saint-Étienne. Located in the heart of the Cité du Design district, it is supported by the city of Saint-Étienne and by Saint-Étienne Métropole, with the support of the State and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Saint-Etienne Metropolis

The National Design Gallery takes place in the heart of the Cité du Design, a district in full transformation, under the impetus of Saint-Étienne Métropole. Funded to the tune of 6.8 million euros by Saint-Étienne Métropole, the project also benefited from support of 2 million euros from the State under the State-Region plan contract.

Saint-Etienne Metropolis Deploys design as a lever of transformation at the service of its 408,000 inhabitants, spread over 53 municipalities. Through a unique cultural and teaching offer, it diffuses a culture of gaze and creation to the greatest number. Through the integration of design into public policies and land use planning, it is transformed into a real laboratory of urban innovation. Through the structuring of the design economic sector, it places use at the heart of design and promotes innovation. Since 2021, Saint-Étienne Métropole has been piloting the Cité du Design district renewal project, at the heart of a wider creative district.
