Collections

The National Design Gallery is not a museum with a permanent collection. Its model is based on the temporary gathering of public design collections and putting them into dialogue. Preserved in the four corners of France, these collections constitute a set of exceptional richness, reflecting the diversity of practices, aesthetics and uses over time. By bringing these collections together in the same place, the National Design Gallery reveals for the first time the scale and coherence of this heritage.

co-supported by the Museum ofModern and contemporary art of Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC+) and by the Public Establishment for Cultural Cooperation Cité du Design – École Supérieure dArt and design of Saint-Étienne, the National Design Gallery is based on a partnership with four major cultural institutions: the National Center for Plastic Arts, founding member, Pompidou Center–National Museum ofmodern art, exceptional partner, the Bordeaux Museum of Decorative Arts and Design and the Frac Grand Large — Hauts-de-France. With the MAMC+, these institutions retain an important part of design collections in France.

Other institutions are called upon to join the project, in particular at the discretion of the exhibitions.
