Catalogue
design in hand, from language toobject
A reference book, intended for professionals, students as well as design lovers, to read, to preserve and to transmit!
First volume of a reference collection dedicated to design, the catalog of the inaugural exhibition Design in hand. From language to object Extends and deepens the tour. At the same time the exhibition’s memory and a work of reflection, it offers essential reading keys to understand the historical, conceptual and contemporary issues of design.
Designed under the direction of Laurence Mauderli, exhibition curator, Alexander what, Director of the Scientific Department of MAMC+ and Joris Thomas, Head of the Design Valorization Department at MAMC+, the catalog brings together essays of major figures in the field of design and human sciences: the anthropologist Tim Ingold ; Aziza Gril Mariotte, Director General of the Museums of Tissues of Lyon and Professor of Universities in Art History, and Donna LoveDay, design historian.

It also contains interviews with iconic or emerging designers such as Michele De Lucchi, Jasper Morrison, Unfold Studio and Ulysse Bouet.
Richly documented, the book also offers nearly thirty developed cartels devoted to the exhibition’s flagship works, providing in-depth insight into objects, their creative contexts and their meanings.
The graphic design and dissemination of this new editorial object, thought of as an extension of the exhibitions and as a reference tool for design professionals and its collections, were entrusted to François Havegeer and Sacha Léopold, founders of the Syndicate Studio and from the Empire Publishing House. Their approach is also a way for the National Design Gallery to include graphic design in its scientific project.
